It has been a rather long while since I addressed anything vampyric in nature. I suppose I ought not to short change that part of my blog title. So, I thought I might combine a couple of practices that I love to study; necromancy and vampyrism. Necromantic practice has seen something of a minor renaissance in recent years. I believe much of this can be attributed to a general increase in the interest and acceptance of occult practices. The rise in interest has created a corresponding interest in the myths and gods of old to include many of the chthonic deities such as Hecate, Annubis, Ereshkigal, as well as historical and mythological necromancers like Circe.

There is a strange power hidden within the realm of dreams. I don’t know what it is about them (well, that’s not entirely true) that causes even the most straight laced rational individual to get a little mystical. That creative impulse finds its resource in dream, lives change there. Reality is bent, broken, and then recreated in the land of Morpheus. When we perform magic, we strive to enter that altered state of reality, which, truth be told, is an act of working our way to the dream state. It kind of makes you go, hmmm. Most people will dismiss it as part of the natural course of existence, which it is. For the practicing magician, it is a dimension that needs to be tapped.
I cannot express in words that are powerful or evocative enough for you to feel what I do. I am not that gifted writer who knows how to put just the right word in your head to create a strong empathic connection to me. I so wish that I could because I am utterly heartbroken. It is not that I want you to feel pain, I just want to share my own, to distribute it so that it is minimized and I can think or move or do anything but cry. I have no place to put further tears.
Intersections are about choices. They are about focus and direction. Which road is the one that will lead to your desired destination? Are there multiple ways to get where you are going? Does one direction look like it will alter you in more significant ways than another, yet lead you to the same place? More importantly, and this is key, do you even have a destination? This idea is part of the nuance of the crossroads. It is the conjunction of choice and opportunity.
I have spent some time playing in the backyard of an occult practice called hoodoo or conjure. For those of you not familiar with this folk magic practice, the short of it is that it is a traditional African-American folk spirituality that developed from a number of West African, Native American and European spiritual traditions. I came to this out of an exhaustion from the (to me) tedious and long winded practices of ceremonial magick, which was no longer captivating or resonating with me. I was looking for something earthier, immediate, “dirty”, practical, but more importantly, that tripped an emotional need within. Without passion, you can’t work magic. Just try being divorced from your work and see what happens. Go on, try it. See? But I digress. This really isn’t about hoodoo, it is about crossed paths. I am using hoodoo to get you going, but it is a most interesting practice and I encourage you to look it up. The crossroads is an important concept in hoodoo. It is a locus of power, similar in nature to chakras, ley lines, or Stonehenge. The exception here is that crossroads are more prevalent and available and do not require stepping on a plane. |
Lasciel AnnwynnI am one of those. Yes, that kind. I poke around in the corners and lesser explored paths of life looking for it's mysteries. There is so much magic in the world when you open your perception to it. Look with eyes of wonder. Archives
